Megaupload Shut Down by US Feds: Download Forum Down Temp.
#1
As the title suggests, and as many of you already heard, the US government has officially shut down Megaupload today. This is a direct effect of the SOPA act congress is attempting to pass, and I highly recommend you all look up ways you can put a stop to this atrocious act that violates free speech and creativity.

Regardless, 85% of the links in the Download Forum used Megaupload, so most of our links here and on GX_ST are gone. Just like that. Years of work, eliminated with one little click from the US government. And there is nothing I can do about it, because I fear many other sites will meet the same fate.

This could also affect us being able to see the new ZeXal episodes if torrents are affected as well, so be prepared for many negative consequences if things continue as they are. But be alert that the links are not working right now and I have no idea what I can do about it.

I will ask: Was Megauplad hosted in US? If not, how could they took it down?

As for torrents - I doubt they can do anything if it is not in their country, that is if servers are not in US, it cannot do a thing.

^MU was hosted in Hong Kong, I guess.

This is terrible. Glad I mirrored a lot of the stuff on FS and it's still working, but the most important work is now down and we don't know for how long, if it is not forever.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megaupload <--- for those who want to know more about Megaupload. Basically, from what Ark said in the chat, if a website ends in .com or .net , its probably most likely property of the USA.

Now, torrents, well, Pirate bay will be the most likely one to fall, that is if it hasn't already. Now, I know Fenopy ends with .eu , so we might be able to use that for Torrents of the episodes and the like.

Incorrect, the media companies pressured and complained to the Feds to take it down because they were losing revenue and Megaupload was making large sums of money off of hosting those files.

And Pirate Bay isn't going down. It's untouchable because its hosted in a country that doesn't give a damn about piracy or copyright infringement and torrents are different then direct downloads.

I recommend using Nyaa and Mediafire (although MF might be targeted next) from now on. And possibly invest in some external hard drives.

Even so, this is just the beginning. Don't think it will stop with just this.

This cripples me as the other sites are blocked by the Anti-virus. Guess I need to buy a flash drive and go to my local libary for it...

Everyone should read this article on the indictment.

The FBI had been planning this for 2 years. And Megaupload was VERY stupid. They pretty much bared their neck to the government with their greed and arrogance. The employees and owners really underestimated the risks of what they were doing.

This is so sad and unfortunate. Such is life, I guess. I wouldn't expect this site to ever return. If it did, it would be as a mere shell of it's former self.

In regards to our manga and stuff, we're just shot out of luck for now. We need to wait and see if any other sites get nukes.

.... Furthermore, any site content I have uploaded I do not have anymore. ^^; I thought they were fine just on Megaupload so if a member would need to provide te older scans in order for us to get everything back again.

Again, we're basically fucked.

I just downloaded Ranks 11 and 12 yesterday. I have some of the other ZEXAL Ranks as well.

And though the rest would be from Janime, not here, I have some 5D's stuff and at least half of GX.

I would imagine that between everyone here that does download them, we probably have most of what was uploaded.

Did you save them on your computer?

So the links are gone. Question, do people still have the actual files? If yes, then everything is fine - though it will take a while to get the content back - and we should just wait and see what happens. As for the things that were not backed up - lesson learned I would say.

I am toor poor to have an external hard drive. D:

I have all of the 5D's manga chapters that got scanlated up to 22, the rest is up in the download forum and on mediafire. I know there's a torrent on Nyaa that has all the 5D's episodes subbed.

I believe most of the stuff that was uploaded on Janime had multiple mirrors, so we are fine.

Yes and no. DM and 5D's, yes. GX and ZeXal, I do not. And for series 1.

My biggest issue here is the DVD uploads of GX that I did not download yet to sub.

I have all DM an ZeXal

If you mean manga, then we have them backed up ever since the "you know what". Besides, there is a site with all DM, R, GX, and most of 5D's chapter for online reading.

I did dowloaded all that were posted... but it means we are going to miss few pages from Rank 12?

No, I mean anime. Saving manga is easy because it takes up a lot less room.

The 5D's anime has a torrent out on Nyaa and Baka BT but it has the LQ 152 though. Was 152 ever released in HD?

No, it never came as HD

I told DARK MASTER yesterday that I have like 95% of 5D's RAWs stored in my FS account. All we need for this are the subtitle scripts, and that's just easy. Also backed up Series 1.

The problem is going to be GU's DVD project.
#23
Daaamn, that sucks. Though, I reckon if people are interested in helping reupload files, there should be a place to express interest. My ISP lets me do unlimited uploads, so might as well use it. Got a ton of (anime) 5D's files, Season 0, some DM and GX, and random ZeXal eps.

And I don't have a HD ver of 152 either; I normally download the highest ver. available. So I can confirm there was no HD release. It was [YGO]_Yu-Gi-Oh_5Ds_-_152_[512x288_h264_AAC][78646FB4]

I think, we should sort of organize the reuploads, more or less like the Janime-backup ^^. Moaning wont help.

Now, we do have all Zexal on fileserve. I dont have GX or 5Ds, but DM. Mafioso, what exactly do you already have as a backup on fileserve?

GX_ST appears to have backups of all of ZeXal on FileServe, maybe I'll grab them and mirror on FileSonic or UploadStation, the more mirrors the better, amirite?

I do have quite a few RAWs. I know I can't post links for DDL here, but I can do it at GX_ST or give them to someone.

Well, let's see:

Series 1 - 01-27
5D's - More or less everything. There are 10-15 episodes missing.
Zexal - I'd say I have 15+ episodes.

I had all DM, all GX RAWs and a few GX_ST subbed episodes until a few weeks I got a notification saying it was against copyright and such. Unfortunately, I don't have anything from DVD Projects. All I had was in my MU account to back up GU's account.
#29
The GX RAW TV rips will be only needed for a short time.
I was talking about Lance's hard subbed episodes. Specially the newest ones for which he used the the GX DVDs as a video and audio source. The rest he started replacing anyway. Releasing RAW DVD rip + subtitles file + hard subbed styled release also DVD rip.

He said he managed to get most of the RAW GX DVDs that were on MU for his project.
We just need to know which ones he is missing so these can be uploaded for him. And at least he can continue his project as if nothing happened , and also he will be free from the need of source material when all RAW GX DVDs are on his hard drives/DVD discs.

There's some rumor (and even a link) carrying around Facebook that they're in process of making a new MU site but....I ain't sure this will work. That damn internet isn't a safe place to share anything these days. And I myself don't have much YGO stuff on my PC (episodes wise) Just up to around 20 DVD Rip DM eps, the POL and BBT movies with GX_ST's subtitles. =( Unfortunately the result of having 3 people using 1 PC and each one storing various stuff in it, always leads to not enough virtual memory. =_=
#31
This is a massive shame. Getting things for free was awesome.

I can see the reasoning behind the new acts being introduced into the US Congress but, the way in which its being handled just irks me. The US is known for being extraordinarily messy in legislative reform and I hope this will the the same case where the conservatives will vote to maintain the status quo.
#32
This is not the way to do things. US laws are not everyone's laws, but this is how things are. I simply regret the miss of all of our files, however, they won't come back again.

Now we have to look for good servers to up our things. FS and WU are no longer paying for uploads, so are a good place to up files, but seeing how bad the situation is right now, it'd be better to wait a few days to see if any other servers get down too. Mediafire is good, but since last 4kids' attack, I won't up anything there and they don't let you to upload files higher than 200MB in size.

Oh yeah, there's a new Megaupload site already out, but do not visit it. It's a tool used by anonymous to DDoS government sites.

Filesonic shut down their sharing. I've been hearing rumors of Fileserve doing the same. The death of the net is starting.
#37
So Megaupload being targeted was just the first of many file sharing sites to be shut down. It's a domino effect...and soon the internet will be dead.
#38
Not sure how I feel about this, given the apparent shady business MU supposedly pulled to begin with; however, I'm more afraid of the collateral damage this is beginning to cause.

Don't rely too well on torrents guys. I'm currently downloading some of this week's anime episodes & they ARE VERY SLOW despite the fact there's like over seeders.

Also, Megaupload was just the beginning. Alot of filesharing site have started to shutdown or be banned from the US as stated in this post in animetake: http://www.animetake.com/forums/news-an ... post863290

So this is truely it... No more downloading anime and manga... We will now be forced to buy them...
