Regarding avatar size, apparently this forum allows you to resize the dimensions of your avatar which I find quite useful.
Mine was also too big, but I simply resized it to the maximum allowed dimensions and all was good.
Also, if you don't like the avatar being on the right, I suggest you guys switch to the second available skin.
It should fix things up right quick.
